In my opinion, Hero Realms is a more polished version of Star Realms, not quite a 2.0, more of a 1. Compared to Star Realms it offers a new theme and I noticed the game is balanced in a slightly different way as Star Realms, so enough newness to explore there. When I played it for the first time over a year ago, I didn't quite understand how the champions worked, it's only recently when I discovered (what a surprise) it works exactly the same as in Star Realms, but just a teeny tiny bit different, hence confusion on my sight. I am a huge fan of Star Realms, so it's no surprise I love Hero Realms as well. The player that gets the health of the opponent to zero points first, wins the game! Newly bought cards are added to that players discard pile and when the deck is empty, they shuffle the discard pile (containing the newly purchased cards). Effects include, paying coins to buy new cards from the common pool, attack the opponent(s) or other effects that are very well explained on the cards themselves. The command decks are fun too, they are basically an alternate starting deck that steers you towards two factions and is powered-up. Furthermore, it has an upcoming cooperative campaign, which should be of huge interest to many people (but not me). Hero Realms is an adaptation of the award-winning Star. As for expansions, there are some packs they add dual color cards which make the game more interesting. It’s still based on the excellent Star Realms system, and it beats out Star Realms in flavor by a long shot. Point being, star realms hits the table every 99/100 times. Each player begins the game with 50 health points, a starting deck, consisting of basic cards containing some coins or some attack. In fact, my friends prefer to play the 12 missions that comes in the Star Realms game compared to the 3 that comes in the hero realms campaign. It's similar in gameplay and mechanics, but with a different theme and some different expansion possibilities.
